Siren’s Lament was one of the first series I picked up when I first downloaded Webtoon in 2016. I fell in love with the series immediately and was the reason I continued to use the app.

So, what a bittersweet feeling I had once I heard the news of the series coming to an end.

Now, with instantmiso’s series being the one to get me into loving Webtoon and so, many stories years later. I thought it would be fitting to kickstart this blog off with the very first review on something that is apart of the reason for me wanting to dive into this journey in the first place.

So, without further ado, it’s time to get into the season 1 review of, “Siren’s Lament!”

If you’re looking for something with either Romance, Drama, Fantasy, stunning artwork, soundtracks to sweep you further into the story and to top it off a compelling plot line! “Siren’s Lament,” may be just what you need.

Ep. 47 — One Condition
Left: Lyra and Shon, Ep. 47 — One Condition

Lyra our main female protagonist has taken over as the owner of her grandmother’s flower shop, “Carnation,” who is currently hospitalized.

Working alongside her part-time is Shon, her childhood best friend whom she is in love with as him to her, but both are oblivious to the fact that they reciprocate one another’s feelings.

Due to this misunderstanding, it leaves both heartbroken to an extent; which then leads to Lyra’s meeting with a Siren (Ian). And this encounter in turn will be the spark that will set off all that is to come.

Now from the very beginning of S1 all the way to its end, instantmiso never skips a beat.

The author does two things simultaneously, throughout the season that gives the story a nice balance. And that is giving focus to the main characters (Lyra, Ian and Shon) as well as the side ones to show off each personality, way of being and express the chemistry amongst them.

All the while sewing in the lore aspect regarding the Sirens in between and building up to the explosive climax at the end of season 1 (ep. 84).

Leaving you wondering what’s next in the best way possible.

Lyra, Ep.84 — The Beginning ends here

Lyra and Ian will finally return to being human, but for a heavy toll.

Tua is left in quite a dangerous predicament… Pele has grown closer to completing the ill-fated prophecy told to her by the Soothsayer that would lead her to become human again. And Shon… well you’ll just have to read to find out.

[read ep. 36 to hear what Pele’s prophecy was and ep. 38 to hear the prophecy given to Lyra and Ian on how they will become human]

The reader also finally gets to catch a glimpse at who the Poseidon is with them initiating The Poseidon’s “Calling.” [Read ep. 15 to here Tua tell The Tale of Poseidon and explain “The Calling”]

When I finished S1 I was quite shocked in a good way, however because so much happened all at once in a way that I didn’t expect. And trust me once you get to the end of ep. 84 you won’t believe what just happened either.

If there was a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers this would be the one.

All in all “Siren’s Lament,” is worth taking a leap into if you’re looking for something new to read. The last ep. was published on December 25th, 2020 concluding the series with a total of #199 eps.

Give this post an applaud if you liked it and comment anything you might want me to write about in the future.

Bonus Tidbits

Left: Ian, Lyra, Shon — Siren’s Shorts 1 #31

— With some breaks from the main story, the creator instantmiso uploaded some fun-filled shorts in between labeled “Siren’s Shorts,” with adorable Chibi versions of the characters which are quite fun to read.,

— I love how well Lyra and Shon’s relationship is shown. instantmiso does a nice job of allowing us to see what they were like when they were younger as well as how their relationship began. With this it gives whatever you may call their relationship more weight and makes it more realistic.

— The art is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to look at especially the underwater scenes which are quite ethereal as well as soothing.

— The music is composed by the fan-favorite KennyComics who also made music for instantmiso’s debut story on Webtoon, “Where Tangents Meet.” [read ep. 26 of “Siren’s Lament,” to see a cameo of a character from “Where Tangents Meet.”]
